The ATHENS COFFEE FESTIVAL is a new institution, dedicated to coffee and its surrounding culture, with gastronomical, educational, entertainment and commercial content. Therefore, specially designed stands will be developed, both at the indoor and the outdoor areas of Technopolis, which will host a number of different companies/businesses.
Why is a coffee festival necessary in Athens?
There is an imperative need, created by the market itself, for the organization and hosting of the ATHENS COFFEE FESTIVAL, at a time period when the coffee catering industry is rapidly growing, while the potential audience of home baristas and coffee lovers is constantly widening.
From 1990 to date, the total consumption of coffee in Greece has more than quadrupled in terms of volume and value. Since then, a dynamic purchasing public has been established that invests in the enjoyment of espresso coffee and the complexity of brewing.
Coffee: a global commodity!
Coffee is the leading beverage in consumption across the Western world after water, among all—alcoholic and non-alcoholic—beverages! Over the last five years, global coffee consumption has increased by 2.3%, reaching 9 million tons! Greece is the 15th leading country in per capital consumption of coffee, at 5.5 kilos per year! Beyond the quantitative growth, the domestic market has demonstrated a significant increase in the quality of coffee reaching the end consumer.
The bloom of Speciality Coffee
The term “Speciality Coffee” refers to fine quality coffee made from carefully selected coffee beans which have been grown in ideal climatic and agricultural conditions. Thanks to its unique organoleptic characteristics, the speciality category coffee has earned the preference of the most demanding segment of consumers. ATHENS COFFEE FESTIVAL will host all Greek roasters who have invested in the value of speciality coffee!
During all three days of its operation, the Athens Coffee Festival will be accompanied by seminars, live shows, live music concerts and DJ parties!
Panhellenic Roasting Championship – SCA Greece
The Panhellenic Roasting Festival will be held for the first time ever, as part of the Athens Coffee Festival 2017. The competition is organized by SCA Greece, according to the standards of the respective world championship, with the participation of professional roasters from all over the country.
Contestants will be graded both for their ability to assess the qualities of the green coffee they will be using, as well as the roasting profile they will select in order to highlight the unique characteristics of each variety. The winner will represent Greece at the World Coffee Roasting Championship to be held next December in the city of Guangzhou in southern China, near Hong Kong.
Live demonstrations & presentations
Distinguished baristas and roasters, Greek and foreign world champions, will present the latest trends dominating the international market.
Dozens of educational seminars will be held as part of the festival, addressed to professionals and coffee aficionados.
Delicious Coffee Tastings
Festival visitors will have the opportunity to try rare coffee varieties from around the world, with different roasting profiles, as well as single-variety coffees and blends.
